Estimator
Description:
Prepare pricing estimates on new projects and estimate prices on change orders on existing contracts.
Read and understand job bid instructions, detailed specifications, prepare a take off of materials included in the job. Estimate all necessary labor, materials, buyout items, equipment costs (including crane costs) to prepare a thorough estimate.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Coordinate and work under the direction of Sr. Estimator.
- Attending job walks to understand and coordinate estimating.
- Doing takeoff from structural and architectural drawings.
- Documenting takeoffs by means of highlighting the item and running and highlighting all sections and details. Entering into FabTrol so the job can be reviewed in buildable and erectable assemblies.
- Coordinating with detailers in relaying scope of work and schedule.
- Reviewing contracts for scope and pricing as per your estimate.
- Attend de-scope meetings prepared with marked bid documents.
- Attending internal kickoff meetings with scope and bid schedule.
- Coordinate with the General Superintendent on field labor and equipment.
- Obtain and document buyout items i.e detailing cost, deck joist, rolling, material and other items that may pertain to various estimate.
- Review specifications and incorporate into estimates i.e high performance paint, galvanizing, AESS requirements.
- Attend meeting with project management to review the estimate information for project management.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent with structural drawing or drafting course work. Vocation or other secondary education program. Seven years of progressively responsible experience estimating structural & miscellaneous steel construction projects. Detailing experience is encouraged. FabTrol knowledge in estimating is required.
